Introduction to EVALUATION and MANAGEMENT CODING. An introductory presentation to the E/M Coding Essentials Workshop. This short confrence presentation is a look at some of the topics covered during the comprehensive, 4 hour, MPECS E/M Coding Essentials Workshop. An excellent opportunity for healthcare providers to learn about Evaluation and Management Coding from the provider's perspective. Key points are presented and discussed in an easy to follow format with emphasis on simplifying the coding process. Teaching objectives are;
1. Explain differences between procedural coding and diagnostic coding 2. Increase understanding of the effects of down coding 3. Documentation For Medical Defence/Pearls & Pitfalls of Documentation
A conference presentation that takes a look at common documentation practices in the era of medical malpractice concerns. This presentation discusses what a medical record should be and what makes a good medical record. Guidelines of documentation are presented for both nursing staff and medical providers. Common documentation pitfalls are reviewed. The issue of malpractice is presented outlining it's four basic elements; Duty, Breach of Duty, Causation and Damages. Some of the procedures or techniques discussed include digital nerve blocks, several facial nerve blocks, ingrown toenials, subungual hematomas, fishhook removal, corneal foreign bodies/abrasions, foreign bodies in the ear and nose, prostate exams, tympanograms, incision and drainage of abscesses, office microscopy and interosseous infusions.
